A sleep apnea device is a dental appliance used to treat mild to moderate sleep apnea.
Why would I want a sleep apnea device?
Many patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea can reduce their symptoms with a dental device instead of using a CPAP machine. A sleep apnea dental device may be more comfortable for you and a better fir for your lifestyle.
How does it work?
A sleep apnea dental device works by gently holding your lower jaw slightly more forward than normal. This moves the soft tissue of your tongue and throat slightly forward and out of your airway to allow for more natural breathing. Please understand that a sleep apnea device can only be made after a sleep study and a proper sleep apnea diagnosis. More information: Sleep apnea is becoming much more well understood and its fortunate that we have less invasive options than CPAP therapies, depending on your situation. We act as a “pharmacy” for sleep apnea devices, so once your sleep study is complete, bring us a copy of the results and we can determine if a dental appliance is right for you.
